This steak and potato foil packet recipe is a simple yet flavorful dinner idea, perfect for grilling, baking, or camping. Juicy steak, tender potatoes, and a rich garlic butter sauce come together for a no-fuss, delicious meal.

Ingredients

(Serves 4)

For the Steak and Potatoes:

  • 1 pound sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 pound baby potatoes, halved (or quartered if large)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary or thyme (optional)

For the Garlic Butter:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Ingredients

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cut the steak into 1-inch cubes and place in a bowl. Toss with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, rosemary (if using), salt, and pepper.
  • Halve the baby potatoes and toss them in olive oil, salt, and pepper.

2. Make the Garlic Butter

  • In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, lemon juice (if using), and red pepper flakes. Set aside.

3. Assemble the Foil Packets

  • Cut 4 large sheets of aluminum foil, about 12x18 inches each.
  • Divide the potatoes evenly among the foil sheets, placing them in the center.
  • Add the steak pieces on top of the potatoes.
  • Drizzle each packet with the garlic butter mixture, ensuring even coverage.

4. Seal the Packets

  • Fold the long sides of the foil over the ingredients and crimp the edges to seal tightly.
  • Fold up the short sides and crimp to form a secure packet, leaving a little room for steam to circulate.

5. Cook the Packets

  • On the Grill: Place the packets on the grill and cook for 10-12 minutes per side, or until the potatoes are tender and the steak is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • In the Oven: Place the packets on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender and the steak is cooked to your liking.
  • Campfire: Place the packets on hot coals and cook for about 15-20 minutes, flipping once.

6. Serve

  • Carefully open the foil packets (watch out for steam!) and garnish with extra parsley, if desired.
  • Serve directly from the packets or transfer to plates.

Tips

  • Steak Doneness: For medium-rare steak, aim for an internal temperature of 130°F (54°C). Adjust cooking time based on your preference.
  • Veggie Additions: Add other quick-cooking vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, or onions to the packets for variety.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble the packets in advance and refrigerate them until ready to cook.

This Steak and Potato with Garlic Butter Foil Packet Dinner is a no-mess, no-fuss meal bursting with comforting flavors. It’s perfect for weeknight dinners, BBQs, or outdoor adventures! 🥩🥔✨
