Thick Hot Chocolate Recipe
If you're craving a rich, creamy, and indulgent hot chocolate that coats your mouth with every sip, this thick hot chocolate recipe is perfect for you. It’s like drinking melted chocolate in a cup!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk (or milk of your choice)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (for extra creaminess)
- 4 oz high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon or a pinch of chili powder for extra warmth and flavor
- Whipped cream or marshmallows (for topping)
Instructions:
1. Heat the Milk and Cream:
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
2. Add Cocoa and Chocolate:
Once the milk and cream are hot, whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar until fully dissolved. Add the chopped dark chocolate and continue to stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture becomes thick and smooth.
3. Flavor It:
Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. If you're adding cinnamon or chili powder, mix it in at this point for a little extra depth of flavor.
4. Simmer and Thicken:
Allow the hot chocolate to simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency. The longer you simmer, the thicker it will become.
5. Serve and Enjoy:
Pour the thick hot chocolate into your favorite mug. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows, and drizzle with extra melted chocolate or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for an indulgent touch.
Tips and Variations:
- Vegan Version: Use almond milk or coconut milk and coconut cream instead of dairy cream for a dairy-free option.
- For Extra Richness: Use more dark chocolate or add a bit of milk chocolate for a sweeter, creamier flavor.
- Flavor Enhancements: Add a drop of peppermint extract, a swirl of caramel, or a spoonful of Nutella for a unique twist.
- Thicker Hot Chocolate: For an even thicker consistency, you can add a little cornstarch (dissolved in cold milk) to the mixture as it heats.
This Thick Hot Chocolate is perfect for when you're in the mood for something extra indulgent and warming. Enjoy it on a cold winter day, or as a special treat for holidays and cozy nights in! 🍫☕
