Stovetop Shrimp Boil Recipe

A stovetop shrimp boil is a simple, flavorful, and satisfying dish that brings the essence of a traditional seafood boil to your kitchen. It's perfect for casual gatherings or a quick weeknight meal. Here's how to make a stovetop shrimp boil packed with spices, tender shrimp, and hearty vegetables.

Ingredients

Serves: 4-6

  • 2 lbs shrimp (shell-on or peeled and deveined, your choice)
  • 4 ears of corn, cut into thirds
  • 1 lb baby potatoes (red or gold)
  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 lemon, cut into quarters
  • 4 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1/4 cup Old Bay seasoning (or seafood boil seasoning)
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
  • Additional lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes and Corn:

    • In a large stockpot, bring about 8 cups of water to a boil.
    • Add the baby potatoes, corn, and Old Bay seasoning. Squeeze the juice from the lemon quarters into the pot and toss the rinds in as well.
    • Boil for 10-12 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  2. Cook the Sausage:

    • Add the smoked sausage slices to the pot and let them cook for 3-5 minutes to heat through and infuse flavor into the broth.
  3. Add the Shrimp:

    • Toss the shrimp into the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook them.
  4. Drain and Season:

    • Carefully drain the pot, discarding the lemon rinds. Transfer the shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage to a large serving platter or baking sheet.
    • Drizzle the melted butter over the boil, and sprinkle with paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper to taste. If desired, add a pinch of cayenne for extra spice.
  5. Serve:

    • Serve the shrimp boil family-style with extra lemon wedges on the side. Pair with crusty bread or a simple green salad for a complete meal.

Tips

  • Customizable Proteins: Add crab legs, crawfish, or clams to make it a seafood feast.
  • Spice Level: Adjust the Old Bay and cayenne pepper based on your preference for heat.
  • Make It Mess-Free: Serve with plenty of napkins and a side of melted butter for dipping.

Enjoy your flavorful stovetop shrimp boil—a taste of the coast in every bite! 🌊🍤
