Snow crab legs are tender and sweet, and with the right seasoning, they make for a luxurious and easy-to-make seafood dish. This simple recipe highlights the natural flavor of the snow crab, complemented by a rich garlic butter sauce for dipping.
Ingredients
(Serves 2-4)
- 2 pounds snow crab legs (fresh or frozen)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (4 tablespoons)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crab Legs
- If using frozen crab legs, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight, or run cold water over them for about 10-15 minutes before cooking.
- If the crab legs are pre-cooked (as most are), you are simply reheating them.
- Use kitchen scissors to cut the shell along the top to make it easier to access the meat when eating.
2. Boil or Steam the Crab Legs
- Boil: Fill a large pot with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring the water to a boil, then add the crab legs. Boil for 4-5 minutes, just until heated through.
- Steam: Alternatively, steam the crab legs by placing them in a steamer basket over simmering water for 6-8 minutes.
3. Prepare the Garlic Butter Sauce
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, just until fragrant.
- Stir in the lemon juice, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
4. Serve the Crab Legs
- Place the cooked crab legs on a serving platter.
- Pour the garlic butter sauce into small dipping bowls and garnish with fresh parsley.
- Serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra citrusy kick.
Tips
- Cracking the Crab: Use a seafood cracker or small nutcracker to break open the hard shell of the legs when eating.
- Extra Flavor: For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to the butter sauce.
- Side Dishes: Snow crab pairs well with roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, or a simple green salad.
This Snow Crab recipe is a delightful, easy-to-make seafood dish that highlights the delicate sweetness of the crab, complemented by a rich, flavorful garlic butter sauce. 🦀🧄🍋
