Prawn Sandwich Recipe
This Prawn Sandwich is a classic and delicious seafood option that’s quick to make and full of flavor. The tender prawns are combined with creamy mayo, fresh herbs, and a squeeze of lemon, all tucked into soft bread for the perfect bite.
Ingredients
(Serves 2)
For the Prawn Filling:
- 1/2 pound cooked prawns (peeled and deveined, preferably medium to large size)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (or to taste)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional, for a tangy kick)
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped (or parsley)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion (optional, for a bit of crunch)
For the Sandwich:
- 4 slices of white or whole grain bread (or any bread of your choice)
- A few leaves of lettuce (such as butter lettuce or iceberg)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Prawn Filling
- Chop the Prawns: If the prawns are large, chop them into bite-sized pieces for easier handling in the sandwich.
- Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, lemon juice, Dijon mustard (if using), chopped dill (or parsley), and chopped red onion (if using).
- Combine: Add the chopped prawns to the bowl and gently fold them into the sauce until they are evenly coated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Optionally, you can chill the prawn mixture in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
2. Assemble the Sandwich
- Toast the bread lightly, if desired, or leave it soft.
- Lay the lettuce leaves on two slices of bread, followed by a generous amount of the prawn filling.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread to complete the sandwich.
3. Serve
- Slice the sandwich in half and serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra citrus kick.
Tips
- Add Extras: You can add sliced avocado, cucumber, or even a thin spread of cream cheese for extra flavor and texture.
- Bread Options: This prawn filling works well with a variety of breads, from soft white bread to crusty baguettes or ciabatta rolls.
- Prawn Substitutes: If prawns are not available, you can substitute with cooked shrimp, lobster, or crab meat for a similar delicious seafood sandwich.
This Prawn Sandwich is perfect for a quick lunch, a light dinner, or even as a refreshing picnic option. It’s easy to make, full of fresh flavors, and always a crowd-pleaser! 🦐🥪
