Instant Pot Rice Recipe

Cooking rice in an Instant Pot is quick, foolproof, and results in fluffy, perfectly cooked grains every time. Here's a versatile recipe you can use for white, brown, or jasmine rice.

Ingredients

(Serves 4)

  • 1 cup rice (white, jasmine, or brown)
  • 1 1/4 cups water (adjust for different rice types; see notes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil or butter (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

1. Rinse the Rice

  • Rinse the rice under cold water in a fine-mesh strainer until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents clumping.

2. Add to the Instant Pot

  • Add the rinsed rice to the Instant Pot. Pour in the water, add salt (if using), and stir gently. Drizzle olive oil or add butter if desired.

3. Set the Instant Pot

  • Close the lid and set the pressure release valve to the "Sealing" position.
  • Select the "Pressure Cook" or "Manual" setting. Adjust the time based on the type of rice:
    • White Rice: 4-5 minutes
    • Jasmine Rice: 4 minutes
    • Brown Rice: 22-24 minutes

4. Natural Pressure Release

  • Once the cooking time is complete, let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes. Afterward, carefully turn the valve to "Venting" to release any remaining pressure.

5. Fluff and Serve

  • Open the lid, fluff the rice with a fork, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Water Ratio Adjustments:
    • White/Jasmine Rice: 1:1.25 rice-to-water ratio
    • Brown Rice: 1:1.5 rice-to-water ratio
  • Additions: You can add spices, bay leaves, or a bouillon cube to the water for extra flavor.
  • Scaling: Double or triple the recipe as needed, keeping the rice-to-water ratio the same.

Storage

  • Store leftover rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat with a sprinkle of water to restore moisture.

This Instant Pot Rice method saves time and delivers consistent results, perfect as a base for any meal. 🍚✨
