Herb Mix for Olive Oil Dip

This herb mix creates a fragrant and flavorful olive oil dip perfect for serving with crusty bread at the start of a meal or as a snack. It's quick to make and can be customized to suit your taste.

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Extra-virgin olive oil (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Combine the Herbs:

    • In a small bowl, mix together the oregano, thyme, rosemary, basil, parsley, red pepper flakes (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
    • If using Parmesan cheese, mix it in as well.
  2. Prepare the Dip:

    • Pour 1/4 cup of extra-virgin olive oil into a shallow dish.
    • Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of the herb mix over the olive oil.
  3. Serve:

    • Serve immediately with warm, crusty bread like a baguette or focaccia.

Tips for Customization:

  • Fresh herbs: If you have fresh herbs, chop them finely and use about three times the amount of dried herbs.
  • Citrus zest: Add a pinch of lemon or orange zest for a bright, zesty twist.
  • Infused olive oil: Warm the olive oil slightly with a smashed garlic clove or a sprig of rosemary for a more infused flavor.

This herb mix also makes a great gift! Store it in an airtight jar, and pair it with a bottle of high-quality olive oil for a thoughtful present.
