Ingredients
(Serves 4)
For the Shrimp Marinade:
- 1 1/2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice level)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional, balances heat)
- 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
- Lime wedges, for serving
Instructions
1. Prepare the Marinade
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, lime juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and sugar (if using).
- Whisk the ingredients until well combined.
2. Marinate the Shrimp
- Place the shrimp in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish.
- Pour the marinade over the shrimp and toss to coat evenly.
- Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 1-2 hours, to allow the shrimp to absorb the flavors.
3. Grill the Shrimp
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Thread the shrimp onto skewers (if using) or place directly on the grill grates, leaving some space between each shrimp.
- Grill the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are pink, opaque, and slightly charred. Be careful not to overcook, as shrimp cook very quickly.
4. Serve
- Once grilled, remove the shrimp from the skewers (if using) and arrange them on a serving platter.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges for an extra burst of citrus.
Tips
- Adjust the Heat: If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the cayenne pepper or omit it entirely. Alternatively, you can add more if you want more spice!
- Grilling Tip: To prevent shrimp from falling through the grill grates, use a grill basket or skewer them onto metal or soaked wooden skewers.
- Side Pairings: Serve with a side of grilled vegetables, rice, or a crisp green salad for a well-rounded meal.
These Grilled Texas Spicy Shrimp are an excellent choice for a smoky, flavorful, and spicy seafood dish that will be a hit at your next cookout or dinner! 🌶🍤🔥
