Garlic Prawns (Shrimp!) Recipe

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) large raw prawns/shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off as desired)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4–5 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
  • ¼ cup (60ml) dry white wine or chicken stock
  • Juice of ½ lemon (about 1½ tablespoons)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prep Shrimp:

    • Pat shrimp dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat Pan:

    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat until melted and hot.
  3. Cook Garlic and Shrimp:

    • Add garlic and chili flakes (if using) to the pan. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Add shrimp in a single layer. Cook for 1–2 minutes per side, until pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook.
  4. Deglaze the Pan:

    • Add white wine or chicken stock to the skillet, scraping up any bits stuck to the bottom. Simmer for 1–2 minutes until slightly reduced.
  5. Finish with Lemon and Butter:

    • Stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter and lemon juice. Toss shrimp to coat evenly in the sauce.
  6. Garnish and Serve:

    • Remove from heat, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve over steamed rice, pasta, or crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
  • Pair with a crisp green salad or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

Enjoy your deliciously garlicky and buttery prawns! 🦐
