  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or fresh if preferred)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Caramelize the Onions:

    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the sliced onions to the pan and sauté for 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
    • Sprinkle the sugar and salt over the onions and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes, until the onions are deeply caramelized and golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Garlic Infused Butter:

    • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1-2 minutes, just until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic. Remove from heat.
