Neapolitan Ice Cream Cake Recipe
This Neapolitan ice cream cake is a delightful combination of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream, layered together to create a delicious, show-stopping dessert. It's perfect for any celebration or a fun summer treat!
Ingredients (Serves 10-12):
- 1 quart chocolate ice cream (softened)
- 1 quart vanilla ice cream (softened)
- 1 quart strawberry ice cream (softened)
- 1 package (about 15-20) chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup hot fudge sauce (for drizzling)
- Whipped cream (for garnish, optional)
- Fresh strawberries (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Cookie Crust:
- In a food processor, pulse the chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs.
- Transfer the crumbs to a bowl and mix with melted butter until the mixture resembles wet sand.
- Press the cookie mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan to form an even crust. Set aside in the freezer to harden while you prepare the ice cream layers.
-
Layer the Ice Creams:
- Starting with the chocolate ice cream, spread it evenly over the crust. Use a spatula to smooth the surface.
- Freeze for about 30 minutes to firm up the first layer.
- Once the chocolate layer is firm, add the vanilla ice cream and spread it evenly over the chocolate layer. Freeze for another 30 minutes.
- Finally, spread the strawberry ice cream over the vanilla layer. Smooth the top and freeze the whole cake for at least 4 hours, or until fully set.
-
Finish the Cake:
- Once the cake is frozen, remove it from the springform pan and place it on a serving platter.
- Drizzle hot fudge sauce over the top of the cake. You can also add whipped cream around the edges for an extra touch of decoration.
- Garnish with fresh strawberries or any additional toppings of your choice.
-
Serve:
- Slice and serve immediately. Keep any leftovers covered in the freezer.
Tips and Variations:
- Add Toppings: You can add sprinkles, crushed nuts, or mini chocolate chips for extra texture on top of the cake.
- For a Healthier Option: Use lighter ice cream or frozen yogurt for a lower-calorie version.
- Alternative Flavors: If you want to experiment, swap out the flavors of ice cream. For example, use coffee, mint chocolate chip, or caramel.
