 Chocolate Mousse

Here's a classic and creamy chocolate mousse recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams (7 oz) of semisweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Melt Chocolate and Butter:

    • In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and butter.
    • Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  2. Beat Egg Yolks and Sugar:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with 2 tablespoons of sugar until the mixture is pale and thick.
  3. Combine Yolks and Chocolate:

    • Gradually whisk the melted chocolate into the egg yolk mixture until well combined.
  4. Beat Egg Whites:

    • In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold Egg Whites into Chocolate Mixture:

    • Gently fold one-third of the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture to lighten it. Then fold in the remaining egg whites until no streaks remain.
  6. Whip Cream:

    • In another bowl, beat the heavy cream with the vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  7. Fold in Whipped Cream:

    • Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until well incorporated.
  8. Chill:

    • Spoon the mousse into serving dishes or glasses. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
  9. Serve:

    • Before serving, garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.

Enjoy your rich and creamy chocolate mousse!
