Easy Hot Cocoa from Scratch
Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk (any kind - whole milk for creamier cocoa, almond milk or oat milk for dairy-free)
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings
Instructions:
In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it's warm but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent scalding.
Once the milk is warm, whisk in the unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Continue to whisk until the cocoa powder and sugar are completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Taste the hot cocoa and adjust the sweetness or cocoa flavor to your liking by adding more sugar or cocoa powder if desired.
Once the hot cocoa is heated through and well mixed, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Pour the hot cocoa into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings if desired.
Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade hot cocoa!
